Welcome our Summer Seminarian!
My name is Eugene Anthony Ikenna Udemba, a seminarian of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, originally from Nigeria. I was raised in an awesome Catholic and devoted family of Mr. John Udemba (deceased), and Mrs. Pauline Udemba. My parents played a very important role in my life and in my choice of vocation.
However, I came to the United States six years ago for my graduate school at Liberty University, where I got my masters in healthcare. My call to the Catholic priesthood is one that has always been in my mind but came to me clearly after years of prayer and discernment. My desire of answering this call is informed by the love of God and love of neighbor. It is a choice that is likened to the parable in the Gospel of Matthew 13:45, “The kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”
Joining seminary has been such a source of joy and self-knowledge. It has not always been easy, but it has been continuously fruitful, which is why I’m still moving forward in my formation. God is so good. I’m very grateful for the opportunity to discern the Lord’s call for my life in the Dallas Diocese. God is my point of reference in my choice. “For this, I was born and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” (John 18:37) Devotion to our Blessed Mother, frequent visits to the Blessed Sacrament, and the Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus have been my strength in saying yes to the call. I am currently a student at Notre Dame Seminary Graduate School of Theology in New Orleans, LA. I look forward to meeting and serving the parishioners of St. Gabriel.
